How to Land Your First Virtual Assistant Gig: Tips for Pitching Your Services and Building Your Client Base
Landing your first virtual assistant gig can be a challenging process, but it's possible even without experience!
VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
Landing your first virtual assistant gig can be a challenging process, but we all start somewhere, right?! Starting to build your client base and gain experience in the industry may be a little daunting, but it'll be worth it! I promise!
So, here are some tips on how to land your first virtual assistant gig based on my experience:
Pick an industry you're great at!
If you're passionate about and have expertise in an industry, it can increase your chances of landing your first virtual assistant gig. So a little exercise, close your eyes, and think about what topics or industries you are knowledgeable about. List down maybe at least 3, don't think too hard! Whatever naturally comes to your mind, write it down. It just only means you're confident and comfortable with the topic/industry because the first three were written down without hesitations.
For example, I am a Yoga Teacher myself. So, I typed "Yoga VA" and sent applications to potential clients. Now, I have an amazing Yoga Studio Owner client based in California, USA.
Pitch your service rate as if it's discounted.
As a new virtual assistant, it's important to be flexible with your rates. You can offer a discounted rate to attract potential clients and show them that you value their business. That's what others say. Here's a trick tho, only between us (sshhh, haha).
For instance, your usual rate is $12. You can say, "My usual rate is $15/hour, but I am making it $12 because your vision resonates with what I stand for..."
They thought they have saved tons of $ but hey, you're still getting your usual rate (*wink).
Give a call to action
Make sure to set a clear call to action in your pitch, so potential clients know what the next steps are. For example, you could suggest a short meeting to discuss their needs and see if you're a good fit for each other. This shows that you're proactive and eager to get started.
Set the authority here but also by making an irresistible connection by saying, "I would love to see if we are a good fit, I am available for a short meeting at your most convenient time."
Be Patient!
Landing your first virtual assistant gig can take time, and it's important to be patient. It may take several months before you find the right client and land a long-term gig. However, once you land that first client, make sure to provide excellent service and exceed their expectations. Happy clients will recommend you to others, and word of mouth is a powerful tool for building your client base.
Landing your first virtual assistant gig requires perseverance, patience, and a proactive approach. By selecting an industry you're passionate about, offering a discounted rate, setting a clear call to action, and being patient, you can start building your client base and enjoy all the benefits of a remote job. Remember, all it takes is one satisfied client to help you land more gigs and grow your business.
